Assignment Instructions – Part 2
For this part of the assignment, you will install the free application Tableau Public and use it to build a simple data visualization from a sample data set. You will also discuss your findings.
Download Tableau Public from https://public.tableau.com/
Download the sample data set.
Open Tableau Public.
On the Discover pane on the far right, choose Sample Data Sets. This will take you to a Sample Data Repository.
Scroll down to the Business category and select the dataset icon next to Millennial vs Baby Boomer Employment.
Save this Excel file to your computer.
Open the sample data set in Tableau Public.
Use the Connect pane at the left side of the Start page, click the Excel link under the To a File heading to display the Open dialog box.
Using the Open dialog box, select the Excel worksheet that you just saved to your computer, and then click the Open button to continue.
Click on National, 2-digit under Sheets. You will now see all of the data.
Click on the Sheet 1 tab to open in the workspace.
You will use this worksheet to create a visualization. Your visualization should show the % Job Change by occupation for each generation. Add these categories by clicking on Generation, Occupation, and % Job Change in the data pane down the left.
Click on Show Me in the upper right and choose stacked bars or side-by-side bars to depict the % Job Change in each occupation by generation category.
Assignment Requirements – Part 2
Take a screen shot of your visualization and embed it at the end of the document you created for part 1. Example: IT153_Tableau_Example
Beneath the screen shot, write a short paragraph discussing what your visualization tells you about job growth by generation. Identify the following: Which occupation has seen the greatest decline across both generation categories? Which occupation has seen the greatest increase across both generation categories? Which occupation has seen the smallest percent change across both generations?
