Overview of the creation of the law and how it relates to earlier laws
The first project requires each student to choose an international organization or legislation that deals directly with refugees, statelessness, undocumented immigrants, naturalization, or guestworkers, etc. and explore its creation, implementation, and impact on the treatment of those subject to the law whether crossing borders or living within them at time of passing of the law. This must be post WWII for instance, the 1951 Convention on Refugees, the 1965 US Immigration Act, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Red Cross, Oxfam International, Save the Children, the 1999 Citizenship Law for German Citizenship, or the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals etc. Requirements: Overview of the creation of the law and how it relates to earlier laws. Definitions of inclusion and exclusion and impact of affected population. 3-5 pages (double spaced). A minimum of 4 sources; only one can be a popular source or a governmental/nongovernmental source.
