What are the results when it is not, due to surgical intervention or birth defect)
Chapter 2 Reaction Paper
Split Brain (Brain Area Functions):
We viewed videos that showed the amazing brains of two men, Kim Peek and “Joe”. Mr. Peek was born with brain abnormalities, including the absence of a corpus callosum, which is assumed, in part, to contribute to his unusual abilities. We also saw a video featuring a man who had undergone split brain surgery (severing of the corpus callosum). How does the fact that the brain is normally divided into two distinct halves seem to affect human function (and what are the results when it is not, due to surgical intervention or birth defect)? What do you think about split brain surgery as treatment of epilepsy and other similar conditions?
