Introduction
The Introduction and Literature Review forms the first part of your Core Assessment. It should have at least 4 references to peer-reviewed journal articles. You can use Pirate Search at the Park University Library.Links to an external site.
You can also have other articles that are not peer-reviewed, in addition to the four (4) that are (e.g., Newsweek, New York Times, websites, etc. do not count as one of your 4, because they are not scientific peer-reviewed journal articles, but it is still okay to mention them and cite them, they just don’t count as one of the four peer-reviewed journal articles that you must have to get full credit).
DO NOT list any articles in your References section that you have not actually summarized and cited in the body of your text.
DO NOT cite any articles in the body of your text that you have not listed in your References.
Make sure the articles are directly relevant to your hypothesis: For example, “Men have better mental rotation skills than women.” (Or not, depending on what you think the evidence from the previous articles indicates).
Convince me that you have read the articles you cite and that you understand how their methods and findings are related to your research project. Be very careful not to plagiarize. Review the ethics module and information on academic honesty. If in doubt, always cite.
Directions
Write an Introduction and Literature Review for your topic. This paper, with revision, will form the first part of the Core Assessment paper later this term. Your paper should have the following components: title page, abstract, introduction & literature review, and references. All articles used in the body of the paper should be included in your references list. If you do not use an article in the paper, do not include it in the references list.
Outline for your Proposal
Use the following outline to guide you in writing an Introduction and Literature Review. Make sure your paper is not just an outline. It needs to be written as a journal article. If you plan to use headings, follow APA style for headings.
Title Page
Abstract Page (The abstract should briefly summarize your topic and include your hypothesis. This abstract will need to be revised by your final paper to also summarize your methods and results.)
Introduction: Introduce your topic.
What is this topic about? Why is it important? Including an example from everyday life is a good strategy for helping the reader understand the relevance of this topic.
List your hypothesis
Literature Review:
What is your first article? What was their hypothesis? What were their methods? What were the results? How do these results relate to your hypothesis?
What is your second article? What was their hypothesis? What were their methods? What were the results? How do these results relate to your hypothesis?
What is your third article? What was their hypothesis? What were their methods? What were the results? How do these results relate to your hypothesis?
What is your fourth article? What was their hypothesis? What were their methods? What were the results? How do these results relate to your hypothesis?
Overall Summary:
Overall, what is the main things these articles indicate? Do these studies lead you to look at your study differently?
What is your hypothesis? What is your independent variable? What is your dependent variable? Why do you believe your hypothesis will be true?
